독일 출생의 가톨릭 신학자로서 캐나다 맥길대학교 신학대학 명예교수이며, 1962년부터 「에큐메니스트」편집자로 일하고 있다. 최근 저서로는 The Church for Others: Protestant Theology in Communist East Germany(Eerdmans, 1996), Karl Polanti on Ethics and Economics(McGill-Queens University Press, 1996), Le nationalisme: perspecfives ethiques et religeuses (Montreal: Fides, 1998) 등이 있다.
