휘튼 대학 ( B.A.), 댈러스 신학교 ( Th.M.), 캘리포니아 대학교 ( 버클리, M.A.) 및 스코틀랜드 애버딘 대학교 ( Ph.D.) 에서 공부 했으며, 트리니티 복음주의 신학교에서 구약 성경과 셈어 교수를 역임했다. 현재는 테네시 주 내슈빌에 있는 임마누엘 교회의 담임 목사이다. Preaching the Word 시리즈의 『잠언』 과 『이사야』 를 포함한 여러 책을 썼고, 『ESV 스터디 바이블』 ( 부흥과개혁 사 역간 ) 에도 기고했다. 또한 그는 리뉴얼 미니스트리 ( Renewal Ministries ) 대표이며, Gospel Coalition과 Acts 29 Network에 서도 섬기고 있다.
