퍼시픽 루터란 대학교(Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Washington)의 종교학부 교수다. 그는 Jesus and the Economic Question of His Day(1986)와 Jesus and the Peasants(2008), The Political Aims of Jesus(2012)를 저술했고, K. C. 핸슨(K. C. Hanson)과 함께 Palestine in the Time of Jesus(2008)를 저술하여 수상한 바 있다.
