베일러대학교에서 철학박사학위를 받았으며, 현재 텍사스주 휴스턴에 위치한 세인트토마스대학교의 초기 그리스도교 교수다. 그는 바울 서신과 고대 그리스 로마 철학 및 수사학 전통의 상호 관계를 집중적으로 연구해 왔다.
